MG - Alive and on the Road in Chicago
MG may be back in England but the MG spirit has never died in Chicago. Here in Chicago there is an active group of MG owners and enthusiasts. We have been active since 1975 and sponsor rallies, technical sessions, and friendly get togethers.
We are the first and largest club in the United States to affiliate with the MG Car Club of England Ltd.. We are also affiliated with American MGB Association, North American MGB Register and North American MGA Register. On this web site you may also find Club Links to virtually every (to the best of our knowledge) MG club and/or all-British car club in North America, whether they have a web presence or not.
Be sure to check out the Signature Events that our club sponsors, the All British Swap Meet and Autojumble in late February, and the Abingdon MG Weekend in late September.
Meeting and Gatherings
We have regularly scheduled Club Meetings on the third Monday of each month with presentations relating to the care and feeding of your car, as well as other auto related topics. There is also a regularly scheduled "Natter 'n' Noggin" gathering (a British tradition of "talking and drinking") on the second Tuesday of each month.
Newsletter, Classified Ads, and What's New?
Each month we publish the Driveline, an exclusive newsletter for club members containing MG related articles, technical advice, calendar of events, and MG news. The Driveline is also published and archived here on our website. This also includes a link to a regularly maintained web page with Classified Ads. We also post a web page called What's New of current happenings in the MG world at large.
Rallies, Autocross, and Driving Tours
Club members can participate in numerous driving events throughout the year, ranging from rallies to autocross, breakfast drives and fall color tours. During favorable spring, summer, and fall driving weather there are exciting events almost every other weekend to choose from. The winter months may keep us off the road a bit, but we still find time for other activities. Check our Calendar and Driving Events page for upcoming events.
Car Shows and Cruise Nights
We maintain a list of Car Shows within driving distance of the Chicago area, and occasionally events of national interest, including our own Abingdon MG Weekend. We also list (sometimes) Cruise Nights around the Chicago suburban area area that may be of interest to British car enthusiasts. These are primarily street and parking lot shows in the downtown areas. Many of these events are sponsored by Rally Insurance Group in Elmhurst. Check our Calendar and Shows & Cruise page for upcoming events.
Social Events and Regalia
Sometimes when the cars need a rest, or we just need a respite from driving them, we like to do dinner with friends, a yard party, an outing in the park, a winter Amtrak Road Trip, an All British Swap Meet and Autojumble, club camping for a weekend, or other pleasantries with our friends. If you don't find something you like here, we're always open to suggestions for more fun. Check our Calendar and Social Events page for upcoming events. We also have an ever changing inventory of Regalia Items for those times when you may want to buy something for yourself rather than for your MG.
As you may have discovered, sports cars are full of quirks uncommon to the family sedan. We regularly present technical sessions to help you better understand those seemingly unanswerable questions. We have a knowledgable group, many of whom have already encountered and solved the problems you may now have. We are always happy to share the solutions, as well as the sources of hard-to-find parts or services with other club members. Check our Calendar and Tech Sessions page for upcoming events. Also check the Tech Tips pages and Parts and Services links pages. We also maintain a list of Local Vendors for services and parts for your Little British Car.
Tool Lending Program
We have a list of Loaner Tools that the Chicagoland MG Club owns and maintains for use by its members. The intention of the club is to procure and hold some of the more expensive tools that folks may be hesitant to buy for themselves because of the expense and the limited usage by any one person. Check our Tool Lending page for a list of the available tools and guidelines.
Library of Books, Video's, and Web Photos
Our club library holds a substantial list of Books and Videos of interest to MG enthusiasts. Any member interested in examining and/or checking out any of these is welcome. They will be at all Monday night meetings. We use a file card sign-out system. Our web site also has an extensive store of Photos and Notes from past events of all types, including tech sessions. This web site also has an interresting set of pages relating the History of MG Automobiles and the company and people who built them (and still do build them).
We'd love to have you as a club member! It's as easy as filling out the membership application. Dues are a meager $25.00 per year, including everything listed above and more MG fun than we could ever list.
