  Chicagoland MG Club:Driveline
6th Annual Amtrack Road Trip
January 18-20, 2002

by Ann & Jake Snyder

This year’s destination is the Detroit Auto Show, where the MGF was shown, never to appear in Chicago. We will leave Friday afternoon and return Sunday afternoon, and stay at the Greenfield Inn in Allen Park. This is the three-story hotel with automotive art on all the walls of the corridors. It is said to be the largest display of its type in the world. The Greenfield Inn also has a lounge, restaurant, pool and shuttle service to the Amtrak station.

When - Leave Friday, January 18 and return Sunday, January 20.

Train - Leave on train 352 at 1:10 P.M., return on train 353 at 11:51 A.M. Reserve on line at www.amtrak.com or phone 1-800-USA-RAIL. The cost is about $80 per person, and gets more expensive the longer you wait.

Hotel - The GreenField Inn (313-271-1600), $82 per night single or double, use the reservation code CHICAGOLANDMGCLUB. Make the reservation before Friday, January 4.

Transportation in to Cobo Hall: The best seems to be a taxi, which should cost about $25 per 12-mile cab ride which hold 4 persons. Naturally, all would expect to share the cost equally if a second or third cab were not full.

Tickets to the auto show are $10 each.
