Jim Evans' Steering Column

The last time I had this job, there was no column in the newsletter from the President.
Come to think of it, there wasn’t much else in there either with a newsletter that was typed (on a typewriter!) to fit the half page and secretly Xeroxed after hours at someone’s workplace. Look what we have now! The world has come a long way since then with the advent of home computers, word processing software, email and the web to help improve many aspects of our activities.
The club, too, has come a long way since then in many areas. We have relocated our meeting place several times as we either “outgrew” the previous site or experienced unacceptable changes there. We have seen the introduction of new events, such as the national level all MG meets, the British Car Festival and the British Car Swap Meet. We have seen both national level clubs and personalities wax and wane in the MG world. We have seen changes at the local level too, with the addition of new events and the decline of others in our own calendar.
One thing that seems true is that the club has prospered over the years, and has generally benefited from the introduction of new things and new ways of doing old things. This year the Board of Directors will be taking a close look at how we conduct our affairs in several areas with the intent of identifying potential improvements. Stay tuned for future reports! And remember: any and all club members are equally entitled to voice their opinion on club matters at meetings, or via phone call, email, or letters to the newsletter editor.
I would like to thank all the club members who took the time to send in their ballot for our recent election; regardless of who you voted for, your support and your interest in the club was appreciated by all of the candidates.
Finally, I would like to suggest to all members that you make this the year that you attend those events that you “heard about” or thought “sounded interesting” in the past but somehow never put it on the calendar. You would find the events to be fun, your fellow club members to be enjoyable companions, and your memories of club activities to be pleasant reminders to join us more often.
