Driving Events for 2006
Wade Keene

Wade Keene You all thought you were rid of me, didn't you? No such luck; Russ has taken over my spot on the board (let me know in 6 months if you want congratulations or condolences!), but I am continuing as Membership Chair, Driveline Distributor, and Driving Events Coordinator. And I'm also taking over Wilbur's job as past co-chair … luckily not as much to do with that post.

The purpose of the CMGC is to promote the use and enjoyment of MG cars. To accomplish that it makes sense to use and enjoy our MG cars. Therefore, we have driving events. Might as well, since there at least a few MGs in the club that can be driven. Coming to meetings and N'&N's is fine, but it should be remembered that this is a car club. I don't know about you, but that implies to me that club participation should revolve directly around the car, and the natural extension of that is to DRIVE THEM. If we really want to do something for MGs and the hobby, we need to get out of the basement and onto the road. That's where you run into people that say "nice car …" and get some positive exposure for the marque. You can't defeat the old stereotype of undependable LBCs without getting them on the road. For those that still think MGs are undependable, you need to get to a tech session. One of the best ways to get on the road is to come on one of our club rallies, tours, or autocrosses. You're in good company and odds are the route is set up to maximize your MG driving pleasure.

To that end we'll be having a driving events planning meeting for 2006. It's on February 12th, at 2:00 pm at Mack's. As in the past several years I've done this, we will plan the calendar of events, assign/take volunteers for running events, etc. If you are interested in running a rally or tour, but have no experience, we can pair you up with someone who has some if you want. This is not the SCCA, this is a club that, for the most part, is more interested in having fun than winning trophies.

We will probably have 4 tours instead of 2 as in past years since they are more popular than other events. Maybe we'll even have more, we'll see how the meeting goes. There will also likely be 4 rallies and 4 autocrosses. We are also reaching out to other area British car clubs to join us in these events, so if you know someone in another club that drives their cars, or should, feel free to talk to them and let me know so we can lead the way in getting more Brit iron out there.

So, if you have any interest in helping with an event (or more) or even just want to come and let your input be heard come out on February 12th at Mack's.
