The Steering Column from (one of) your co-chairmen

William 'Wilbur' Mennell Those of you who weren’t at the February meeting missed out on one of the more spirited exchanges of ideas that I have witnessed at a meeting in a long time. The main concerns focused on CMGC’s budget and building up our ‘coffers’ in order to have an ample supply of funds for future projects.

The swap meet, our big fund raiser, is now history. Did you clean your garage and disencumber yourself of some of those redundant parts and bits that you’ll never need (until you get rid of them), or did you add to your collection of valuable treasures? Either way, its a great way lose those late winter blues. As Barney is a stern task-master, I had to submit this piece before the swap meet, but my hat is off to Jim Evans and his crew for what I am sure was another successful event.

Speaking of hats, a nice BRG wollen MG hat is the prize for another sporadic quiz. The 2003 Gran prix season will be starting in just a few short weeks. My favorite all-time driver is Graham Hill, twice world champion, Indy 500 and LeMans winner. Can you name a connection between Graham Hill and MGs? Yes, they’re both British, and no, Hill did not race MGs. The first correct answer that I recieve (preferably by e-mail) will be awarded the chapeau. As always, attempts to influence the judge with offers of distilled spirits will be accepted, but may not succeed.

Wilbur
