First of all – that groundhog doesn’t know light from dark or shadows from bright daylight. February has once again proved to be the worst winter month of them all – especially since Groundhog Day. Six more weeks of winter? Pulleez! I only wish I could hibernate as well as our MGA – sittin’ up so nice and pretty on her dollies, presenting her driver’s side profile to me every time I pull into the garage. (By the way, I mention this almost every time I enter the garage and it drives Amy nuts!) And hibernating it is, the most distance traveled since mid-December is 12” vertical. Winter work: zero. I’m thinking of two diverse topics but Amy and I have something in common with both: 1) You got to play to win, and 2) A season marked with an asterisk.
If there is one thing I’ve emphasized (or is that: belabor, dwell on, harp on, repeat and redundantly repeat) is that this Club needs – no, make that craves - participation from the members; and participation doesn’t come without rewards. So Amy and I did our best to participate last year in Rallyes along with some other trips - such as the Beer, Wine, Cheese and Shakespeare Tour (I only went along for the Shakespeare experience!) which was memorable. But I digress… That’s the gotta-play part.
Imagine our surprise at February’s meeting when we were presented with the Moss Motors and Victoria British trophies, traditionally given for “Best Driver” (me) and “Best Navigator” (Amy), for 2006. (I really get a kick out of Amy getting that award, but no further comment on that or else I’ll be sleeping with the A.) But seriously, we are thrilled to have this hardware to display and brag about not to mention polish and dust during the next year! These trophies have been in the CMGC organization since 1991 and 1993, respectively. That’s the win part.
This is just to show that You Too can be easily recognized and rewarded for a simple thing as showing up and having a good time. No trophy can come close to the enjoyable experience while participating, it’s only a symbol. But I can recall those great times without any reminder to do so.
Thank you CMGC for a great 2006 and here’s to a great 2007 experience for everyone – members and all! And to think my first journey this year will start with a 12” descent! Drive safely…and fast.
