BMC Competitions Department Secrets
By Marcus Chambers, Stuart Turner, & Peter Browning
2005, hardbound, 185 pages, b&w photos
Well, I guess that the secrets are out, thanks to the authors. The three men who, each in turn, ran the BMC Competition Department at Abingdon from 1955 until 1970. Following the disaster at Le Mans in 1955, BMC opted to shy away from racing and make rallying the thrust of their competition. Minis, Healeys, and MGs reigned supreme. Each author starts with a narrative summarizing his time at the helm, backed up by documents which include office memos, written crew instructions, competition reports, and build sheets. Plenty of black and white full page photos.
An interesting view into a part of motor sports that we donít hear too much about. Available at the April meeting.
