It’s a very active time for any LBC owner and especially the CMGC. Time’s a-wastin’ since the weather is finally breaking and top-down drives aren’t too chilly.
If you missed our Spring Tune-Up on April 15th, hopefully you’ve taken time to top up and tighten loose fittings. I didn’t require much rack time – just grease to the front end (my perpetual oil change condition still exists). The previous week I was converted – not politically or religiously, but from generator/positive ground to alternator/negative ground. All is working fine and it was painless; overall probably the most time spent removing/replacing the radiator. Many thanks to Bob Schultz for hands-on help and Barney Gaylord for website information and fuel pump answers.
If you missed our April meeting, you lost out on some big treats. Jake and Ann Snyder presented an informative list and discussion of essential tools and parts for any trip. Akin to “don’t leave home without it” we learned that any Sunday afternoon drive or an out of town trip can be more enjoyable with the peace of mind having the right spare equipment. Conveniently, all of the necessities fit nicely into a CMGC tool bag – another must-have item. We’ll see about getting Jake and Ann’s list into this Driveline or the next issue.
As if that wasn’t a treat in itself, we had special way-out-of-town friends join us for recent events – Peter and Kama Shattock came all the way from Melbourne, Australia just to be with our CMGC group! Well…actually they were visiting their daughter and family in Chicago. Talk about planning - Peter researched the CMGC through our website and set aside time to take part in our Natter n’ Noggin, Tune-Up party and April’s meeting. At the meeting Peter talked about his three MG’s – a 1947 TC (a retirement project in boxes), a 1968 B (purchased new by his father and now a family heirloom; modified with a fastback hardtop) and a 1998 F. Peter shared the organization and activities of everything MG in Australia. Visit for more information. Our meeting group really appreciated the visit and friendship extended by Peter and Kama. We exchanged some “tokens” and we can now say that the CMGC badge will be displayed in Australia! Peter also left us with some items that will be dispersed at future Club meetings…so ya gotta attend! What a great idea that the Shattock’s had to check out MG clubs for their trip and that they managed to connect with us. We wish them all the best.
And speaking of Best Wishes…Congratulations are in order for Barney Gaylord as the 2007 recipient of the Cecil Kimber Enthusiasts Award by the M.G. Drivers Club. (Will we have to bow in his presence from now on?)
Wishing a speedy recovery to Mr. President, Jim Evans, after knee surgery. Lois informed me that, although it is his clutch leg, the doctor says his shifting will be unaffected!
And not the least – I wish you all a safe driving season whether in the Chicagoland area or way out there in Australia!
