Rebuilding / Replacing an MGB Engine - March 21st and 22nd

Rebuilding and replacing an MGB engine was a two day event hosted by Dave “Cowboy” Bralich. Three members were in attendance on Friday and Barney Gaylord joined the group on Saturday. Starting with an engine block with the crankshaft and cam previously installed, new rings and pistons were added. The oil pump was reinstalled along with the oil pan. From there we went to work on the MGB and removed the engine from the car and called it a day.

Saturday Cowboy had assembled the cylinder head to the engine prior to our arrival. He demonstrated how to assemble the flywheel and clutch. Then the fun part, wrestling the rebuilt engine into the car and aligning it to the transmission. We reassembled the radiator, starter, distributor, carbs, exhaust, and added fluids. It was cranked over to verify oil pressure. Then the spark plugs were installed and we started the engine. There was however a minor set back. It was found that the distributor was out 180 deg and the valves need to be adjusted. Barney showed us an easy way to adjust the valve clearance without using a feeler gage. The engine runs great, and was broken in.
