ABINGDON SUMMER PARTY
UPDATE

by Jim Evans

Things are starting to move fast with this year’s inaugural ABINGDON SUMMER PARTY. Our host hotel, Jumer’s Continental Inn in Galesburg reports that just a few rooms are left from our block of 125 so any interested members should reserve their room as soon as possible. Once Jumer’s is full, we have arranged for other hotels to take up the overflow but it’s always best to stay at the host hotel at these events so reserve now if you still can.

We have a strong selection of vendors slated to be on site, including many of the same that helped to make the University Motors Summer Party so enjoyable for many. There will be parts, regalia, performance upgrades and more available to attendees. Some vendors will be conducting tech sessions during the weekend. The event shirt and cap have been well received in previews and promise to be highly prized in the future; they incorporate a new design and an upgrade approach to event regalia that is consistent with the overall approach of the steering committee to this event.

The car show promises to be a memorable event, introducing the new “Abingdon Sterling” standard for judged cars, and a great popular vote display site for all others not seeking a judged competition: it will be held on the midway area of downtown Abingdon, and will benefit from the availability of local food and craft vendors during the day. Also, car show attendees will have a ringside seat for the famous “Abingdon gymkhana” which will be run on the streets of downtown Abingdon concurrently with the car show.

Please note also that the Abingdon Trials Endurance rally is part of the weekend program of events, another feature in the mold of the University Motors Summer Party.

New members, old members, and anyone still undecided are all encouraged to make their reservations now and plan on joining in on what promises to be one of the best weekend events ever held by the club; call any officer, steering committee member or Jim Evans for information about The Abingdon Summer Party
