The "Return to Abingdon" will be held the week-end of Oct 6th - Oct 9th. We have a block of rooms reserved at the Best Western hotel in Galesburg, Il. The phone number is 309-343-7151. When you call for reservations ask for the special CMGC rate of $71 per night. We will have a fish fry dinner on friday night with hospitality room to follow. Old Speckled Hen beer, imported from Abingdon, England, will be served with light refreshments. Saturday morning will be the car show in downtown Abingdon with our Famous Abingdon Gymkhana to follow at 1:00. This is a really special event as the townfolk of Abingdon close off the main street in order for us to autocross the eight lane by two block long heart of town. Saturday evening is the awards banquet (serving prime rib) at the Soangetaha Country Club. The view there on the shores of Lake Rice is truly remarkable, and the heavily timbered ceilings of the dining room offer a distincly British feel. Again , the hospitality room is open to the night people. Sunday is breakfast at the hotel and then on to the Knox County Scenic Tour. This is a self-guided tour of the area that includes 4 homes on the national historic register, a working 1835 farm, the Carl Sandburg home, Abe Lincoln sites, pumpkiin fests with great home cooking, a Potawatomi indian village, and lots more.
