Emissions Tuning Tech Sessions
October 12, 2002 and October 26, 2002
Streamwood, IL

After the success of the October 12 emissions tuning tech session, word must have gotten around. The next one on the 26th was almost getting a bit out of hand. At one time there were present at least a dozen MGBs, and a Midget or two (and one MGA).

The first patient of the day was a 1979 MGB with all the whistles and bells still in place. This one had failed miserably on two prior emissions tests. There was about an hour of tinkering, chat for lessons, clean the carburetor, retard the timing to 0 degrees TDC, and lean out the mixture slightly. Then two miles down the street at the official state testing station it passed with flying colors. See results sheet above.

There was a Gunnson’s Gastester digital exhaust gas analyzer being used on loan compliments of Tom Sotomayor. Also on hand was the Sears/Penske air-fuel ratio and tune-up analyzer from the club loaner tool crib. It can handle a battery of electrical tests as well as measuring air/fuel ratio and carbon monoxide emissions.
