Chicagoland MG Club: Driveline January 2016

Endurance Award - Most events without placing in the Top 3 in a MG T-Series
T-Type entries went op to 58 this year (from 40 in 2013 and 50 in 2014). Because Bob and June Lee made it to third, the T-Type award goes to Ric and Nancy Maitzen (fourth place overall).

Endurance Award - Most events without placing in the Top 3 in a MGA
None of the four different MGAs (nine entries) that competed made it in the Top 3 of one of the Championships this year. But Russ and Amy Mehaffey clearly placed the highest.

Endurance Award - Most events without placing in the Top 3 in a (modern) MG Midget
Five Midgets came out for the Spring Tune-up. But through the season, it was only Seth Jones participating in autocross and Tim and Jamie Schafer who scored really well in a variety of events.

Endurance Award - Most events without placing in the Top 3 in an MGB (or derivative)
Three teams tied for fourth overall. Ric and Nancy with their TD and Steve and Beth Gorr and Bill Kalafut and Jean Heasley in their MGBs. Because there was no honest way to break the tie, endurance awards goes to both teams.

Navigator of the Year
All previous awards are for teams; driver and navigator. However, some of our navigators deserve a little extra recognition. Lisa Perez hardly ever places in competition, but scores very high in MG spirit, offering help, staffing, organizing, and promotion of the clubs while she participates in the events.

Old and Young
Nothing is more important for our clubs than to bring in young people. And it becomes even more so, when it is one of the older members (in membership years) who is doing that. Gary Maves and his grandson Nathan DuPee participated/organized four of the rallies.

Most MGs Models Driven
Several members have more than one MG. Some have even so many that they could beat Doug with their own cars. Maybe that will happen next year but in 2015, Doug Clark drove his own MGB and MGC and navigated in Phil Law’s MG TD

Long Distance Award
Driving a MG to and from the 2015 driving events, is an underestimated challenge in itself. And it becomes only more difficult if your MG is a 1951 TD and you live far South. Yet, Phil Law drove his 1951 MG TD to eight events this year, rain or shine, on I355.

Bad Luck
Taking a pre-war MG to the 2015 GOF may sound a good idea when you talk about it at a meeting. But driving a 1933 L-Type Magna to Indianapolis is a whole different story. Gerry Risner did it anyway. His ’33 L broke down several times on the way to the GOF. For part of the way home the ’33 L went in Jerry Cihak’s trailer while Gerry drove the 1946 TC that was in there. That is, until it broke too.
