It is hard to believe that we are in 2017. Last year went by in a flash. It seems appropriate to list the top ten of something from 2016 but if you are anything like me you generally disagree with anyone’s top ten of anything. These lists are normally based on one person’s opinion. Best movies, best books, best song, best whatever. I don’t keep a list of anything that may be in the top ten for the year so that I can rate them one to ten. If I did when it came to doing the rankings I would forget why they made the list in the first place and who has time to review a year’s worth of anything?

Like I said it seems appropriate to make a top ten list. This list is not my opinion; it is just a facts list. It is purely coincidental that it almost perfectly matches my wish list. These are the top ten highest prices ever paid for a collector car. These are not adjusted for inflation.

1.    1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa. Bought for $16,390,000.00 in August of 2011
2. 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa. Bought for $12,402,500.00 in May of 2009
3. 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spyder. Bought for $10,894,900.00 in May of 2008
4. 1931 Duesenberg Model J Murphy-bodied Coupe. Bought for $10,340,000.00 in August of 2011
5. 1931 Bugatti Royale Type 41 Kellner Coupe. Bought for $9,800,000.00 in November of 1987
6. 1937 Mercedes-Benz 540K Special Roadster. Bought for $9,680,000.00 in August of 2011
7. 1962 Ferrari 330 TRI/LM Testa Rossa. Bought for $9,281,250.00 in May of 2007
8. 1937 Mercedes-Benz 540K Special Roadster. Bought for $8,252,000.00 in October of 2007
9. 1937 Bugatti Type 57 Atlante Coupe. Bought for $7,920,000.00 in August of 2008
10. 1965 Shelby Daytona Cobra Coupe. Bought for $7,685,000.00 in August of 2009

Some cars listed seem to be the same car but they are just the same model and year. It seems that cars, like fine wines have good years too.

Happy New Year,

~~ Ray Hansen & Maggie
