Chicagoland MG Club: Driveline February 2012

Directions
Monthly Column of Driving Events

February is a strange month for Driving Events in the Chicagoland MG Club. We're working on two years at the same time: planning the 2012 season and closing out the 2011 season. There are no real driving events scheduled because it is supposed to be winter this time of year, but we're thinking about the garage tours, rallies, auto crosses, and weekend outings for the spring and summer of 2012. And we're tabulating the results of the 2011 season.

At the Annual Business Meeting in February we will recognize the winners of the Moss Motors and Victoria British Trophies. As already announced in the December Driveline, they are:
Driver of the Year
1st place — Barney Gaylord
2nd place — Victor L'Heureux
3rd place — Roger Goebbert

Navigator of the Year
1st place — Teresa Gaylord
2nd place — Shirley Goebbert
3rd place — Penny L'Heureux.
But there will be more awards, many more awards. Several other categories of driving achievements will be awarded. Hopefully we will see all of you the meeting. You never know, you may place well in one of the categories. You may also be one of the recipients for the various club awards that are not based on the driving season results. And even if you don't place for any of the awards, it is just as important to recognize your fellow club members and celebrate their results.

It is also about the last chance to let us know any good suggestions for 2012 driving events. Remember? What do we need to do to get you to participate in two times as many events as in 2011? I wrote about that in December and January. You can go back to the Internet if you don't save the old Drivelines to re-read our question and let me know your feedback and input at the business meeting on Monday evening the 20th.

But even without the details of the calendar all worked out you can already save the dates for the four 2012 Biggies:
*     Jo Daviess County Tour (June 29-July 1)
*     GOF with the Vintage MG Car Club (July 24-27)
*     University Motors Summer Party a.k.a. as John Twist's (August 17-19)
*     Beer, Wine, and Cheese Tour (September 21-23).
This is the time of the year to start to plan your summer, schedule time-off or vacation so that you can participate in 1, 2, 3, or all four. Wouldn't that be great?

We also need some help for two of the Biggies. Volunteers for the GOF, to help with the car show or the tour/rally from St. Charles to the Volo Museum. We also need someone to lead the caravan to Grand Rapids plus some people to organize the club BBQ Lunch. Mark Michalak can use some help and ideas for the Lap Around The Lake, the endurance rally for the day before the Summer Party.

I hope to see you at the Business Meeting and I look forward to hearing from you. And if you can't make it you can always call or e-mail me at 847 342 9804 and reinoutvogt@gmail.com.
