Chicagoland MG Club: Driveline February 2015

MGAguru is on the Prowl

MGA Guru is Gone Mobile

Since last report on Dec 23 (when we were sitting in Key West) we have been kicking around Florida for another whole month (six weeks total by now). We took an air boat ride to visit some alligators, dropped by the Edison & Ford Winter Estates in Fort Myers, and visited Lake Placid known as "The Caladium Capital of the World" and "Town Of Murals" and home of the American Clown Museum.

We and have visited several more friends with LBCs and fixed a few more, including draining/changing fuel and unclogging the carburetors on a TR6 to get it running after a few years of hibernation, lapping a valve and installing the head on an MGB to get it running, installing clutch master and slave cylinders and realigning the bonnet latch on an MGB, and found an MGA with a 2-liter OHC Ford engine.

We had breakfast with British Car Club of Southwest Florida in Fort Myers, breakfast with the Gold Coast British Sports Car Club in Lantana, dinner with Bay British Cars in Panama City Beach, lunch with All British Car Club of Volusia County Florida in Flagler Beach, breakfast with Nature Coast English Car Club/Sun Coast Classic MG Club in Weeki Wachee, attended the membership meeting with British Car Club of Southwest Florida, had a nice tour down the east coast with MG Car Club of Florida including a visit to the Fisher Treasure Museum and lunch, and had a dinner meeting with Panhandle British Car Association in Pensacola.

I have cleaned and adjusted the 32,000 mile points in my Mallory Dual Points distributor, changed the oil again, got the new license registration sticker installed, took delivery of a pair of shortie ram stacks for the carburetors (not yet installed). We finally bailed out of Florida and into Alabama on Jan 22. Price of fuel keeps dropping, most recently bought for $1.78.9 in Montgomery, Alabama, down 25% from a month earlier.

Today (Jan 24) we hooked up with British Motoring Club in Montgomery for a nice tour and lunch and a visit to a private car collection. By late night we are nested back in Columbus, Georgia, which you may remember from early December. (check the prior issue of Driveline).

You might like to check the next issue of Classic Motorsports magazine, as there is supposed to be a two page spread on our current venture. It may be on the newsstands by the time you read this. Follow our follies at www.mgaguru.com/mobile
