Chicagoland MG Club: Driveline February 2016

New Directions
Monthly Column of Driving Events

It is that time of the year that there is not yet so much to talk about on the subject of driving events. I hope that you are like me; already thinking of getting your MG ready and about the upcoming events. Preparing our MGs is mostly garage work, by yourself or with the help of the many technical resources our clubs offer in the areas of expertise, tools, advise, and help.

Thinking about the upcoming events is still an in-the-house activity this time of the year. But that doesn't make it any easier; who is going to organize, who is going to participate, who is going to try to win the Moss Motors and the Victoria British Trophies, and who has ideas for some special events this year. You may have noticed that all these items started with "who". That means that you, the members of the clubs, are needed to make the 2016 successful. The more of you and your MG we see, the better the season will be.

And I also mentioned some special events because it is going to be an exceptional year. The VMGCC celebrates its 50th anniversary and the CMGC turns 40, We have the all-register event in Louisville, KY, and in the week before that a group of Australian MG enthusiast is planning to be in Chicago for a couple of days on their way to Louisville.

The clubs are already planning anniversary dinners or club meetings and an evening to hear about the previous adventure of the Australians, driving their MGs from Patagonia -- the most Southern tip of South America -- to Canada. But wouldn't it be great to integrate some driving as well? Maybe some caravans along scenic routes to Louisville, a 40th anniversary rally, a half-century celebration tour, or a sightseeing drive with the Aussies through Chicago, or what we know as Chicagoland.

The driving season will be here before we know it and this is the time to prepare, MGs and events. I hope to hear from you with email at reinoutvogt@gmail.com or phone at (847) 342-9804
