Chicagoland MG Club: Driveline March 2012

Dino Perez The Steering Column
Left Hand Drive

from our President

Drive; [drahyv] (v)
1.   the act of operating or propelling a motor vehicle;
a trip by auto
2.   to force to work or act
3.   to impel; constrain; urge; compel.

Act 1 - it is winter and its the only thing l can think of doing. If when spring arrives and the top is down and the rpms are at 3,000, you know at what speed Im having fun!

Act 2 - drive a socket wrench to loosen or tighten a bolt or a nut. Pretty much the winter duty of taking things apart to clean paint or replace needed bushings.

Act 3 - drive a hammer to break loose a frozen part or flatten a piece of steel.

Act 4 - drive me crazy! While my wife gets mad because things need to be done around the house, I, instead, am playing with my cars.

Act 5 - drive with a smile and have a safe 2012.

See you at the swap meet.

Safety Fast!

George Phariss The Steering Column
Right Hand Drive

from our Vice-President

This is my first attempt at writing a regular column. I promise to try to keep it light and entertaining, whatever that means. Spell check wasn't around when I went to school and growing up in Oklahoma; Will Rogers was one of my idols. His classic line that I followed was If you misspell some of the words it shows that you have a sense of humor, but if you misspell all the words, then it shows that you are ignorant.

It is hard to believe how fast the New Year is progressing. My B is snugly tucked away in the garage and the snow just now is really coming down. Yes, I know that Barney and some others are out there driving, so I guess that I am a wimp, aha, but a warm wimp. It will be warmer before too long and my B will be out there. I figure that it will be less than two more months.

I am in the planning stages of setting up some presentations for our upcoming meetings. I have several thoughts for topics such as tools, oils, tires, etc. I would like to hear from you on what you would like to see presented at our monthly meetings. As long as it would interest us, took around 30 minutes, did not cost us anything and had some connection to our cars, then it should be OK. I am willing to pursue whatever it takes to get someone to come and present at our meeting.

I want to put in a plug for the work done in putting up our club site on Facebook, thanks Kim and Geoff! If you have not visited the Facebook MG club site and joined then you should. It is a great real time communication tool. Also it is great to see our web site kept up-to-date and frequently visited as a great resource, thanks Barney!
