Monthly Meeting Minutes
Third Monday, March 19, 2012
Attendance: 26 members
President Dino Perez opened the meeting at 8:00. A guest, James Sublette of Texas, was recognized. James is visiting and is the owner of a beige 1976 MG Midget.
Doug Clark noted that he is working on opening up a side panel access for his MGTF for easier maintenance. He has seen this done on other cars and is attempting to duplicate the enhancement. Doug also mentioned he is looking for a front suspension tie bar – his car is missing this item.
John Schroeder will be working on his car to remove the annoying rear-end ‘clunk’ in the differential.
16th Annual Swap Meet – update – Jim Evans noted that this years’ event was successful. The attendance figures show we had over 813 shoppers visiting the 75 vendors occupying 101 spaces. This was the 2nd highest attendance on record. After expenses the club realized about $2,500 for our effort. Jim thanked Dave Bralich and Scott Kiederlen for their assistance in transporting the CMGC car parts for sale at the meet.
Upcoming Events: - (additional information available on the CMGC website.)
Autocross – 3/25 – This year we will participate in four autocross events; the first to be with the Miata Club of Chicago. This event will take place at Alexian Field in Schaumburg. Driver and car race against time through a marked course, hardly ever getting past 1st gear. No special modifications are needed on your car and minimal safety equipment is required. Contact Joel-Paul Brossard for more details.
Spring Tune-up – 4/28 – This event will again be held at Mark Leuck’s Quality Tire facility in Willowbrook. This is Mark’s 27th year of hosting this event. We will then be going to Roundhead’s Pizza for a post-tune up party.
Spring Chicken Run – 5/20 – George Phariss will sponsor this event this year. The Run will start in Deer Park and finish at George’s home in Ivanhoe. The Run will be about 90 miles of driving – maybe 2 hours total.
Garage Sale – 6/16 – Once again there will be a sale of miscellaneous car parts stored in the CMGC storage locker. Many items are not available anywhere else and could be yours for a nominal price. Come by and look through the bins for unique treasures. Jim Evans is the contact for more information.
GOF – 7/24-26 - This three-day event will be hosted by Vintage MG Car Club of Chicago. CMGC will assist in this nationwide event with rallies and car show. More details will be available soon.
British Car Festival – 9/9 – Darryl Mayo is our club’s representative for this event. Darryl noted that work is underway to recruit vendors for this event.
Driving Events - 2012 will be a busy year for driving events. The major events scheduled for next year are: MG-2012 event (6/6-10), Jo Daviess Tour (6/29-7/1), 34th annual Midwest GOF (7/24-27), John Twist Party (8/17-19), Wine, Cheese & Beer Tour (9/21-23). With this heavy schedule, there will possibly be fewer rallies and day tours scheduled this year.
Library - Wilber Mennell noted that there are a few new books available for club members.
Regalia – George Phariss remarked that there are new items available on the website.
50-50 Raffle –
Gary Morel went home $8 richer after having the winning ticket.
Meeting adjourned at 8:54 pm.
