Chicagoland MG Club: Driveline May 2012

Directions
Monthly Column of Driving Events

This is it fellow MG Drivers. The 2012 Driving Season is under way. You should already find a report of the first event, the Spring Tune Up, in this issue of the Driveline. We had a very successful Rally and Tour Master Meeting a few weeks ago to streamline the events, to exchange ideas about safety and organization, and to practice writing clear driving instructions. You will experience the results only when you come to one of our driving events. And this Driveline contains all the necessary information for the May and June events so there is no need for me to go through each of them in my column.

There is however one new event on the June calendar, the Garage Sale. The club has a lot of donated, used, MG parts. We used to sell them on eBay and we offer them at the annual swap meet. But the club locker is filling up to capacity and on June 16, Jim Evans will accept every reasonable bid. How can that possibly be a driving event? Well, first of all we encourage you to drive your MG to the Garage Sale and maybe you pick up a few parts that make driving your MG even better, faster, safer, or just more enjoyable. You see, it is all about driving your MG?

You may already know that our colleagues from the Vintage MG Car Club of Chicago host the Midwest Gathering Of the Faithful (GOF) in St. Charles from Tuesday through Thursday June 24-26. The event will offer a unique opportunity to see not only the entire spectrum of T-Types but also many more rare MG's. The North American MMM Register has selected our GOF for their 2012 annual convention and you may expect pre-war MG's from the entire US to participate in the rally and car show. But there will be even more. A group of Tickford owners has also decided to join our GOF. These are also pre-war MG's with a very special unusual top that opens in two stages. You may have seen Lou Louchous' VA Tickford at the British Car Day. At the last club meetings I have sent around a sign-up sheet for help with the GOF Rally to the auto museum in Volo on Wednesday June 25. If you're not a meeting regular but want to participate in the GOF or want to help with the rally, please send me an e-mail or give me a call for the details.

Please take a look at our calendar; 2012 is another great year for driving your MG in the Chicagoland area. We hope to see you at many of the driving events. Your MG deserves it and you will enjoy it, we promise. As always, please feel free to contact me with suggestion, concerns, and questions. You can e-mail to
