When you are reading this some club events have already taken place.

On April 22nd we had the Spring Tune-up at Don’s Auto Ad in Warrenville followed by a few beers at Rock Bottom Brewery. I was not able to join in with the beers but did enjoy visiting with other club members as they worked on their cars. Thanks to Bill Mennell and Dave Bralichfor a fun and helpful day.

Not a Chicagoland MG Club event but on April 22nd there was the Missouri Endurance Rallye in St Louis. It is a 7 to 11-hour drive depending on how good you are. A number of CMGC members have entered and won awards in past years.

The Vintage MG Car Club hosted the Spring Brunch Tour on April 30th. It was a short drive followed by a breakfast natter n’ noggin. Both clubs were invited to join in.

Depending on the timing of the Driveline issue (or when you got around to looking at it) The Spring Chicken Run is on May 7th. This is always a fun event and as of this writing Susan and I are eagerly anticipating our first participation of the year at this event.

Susan and I are also looking forward to the remainder of the year’s driving and social events. Some of the things to look forward to are the Lands End Rally June 4th followed closely by the Dan Herman Memorial Secrets of Jo Daviess Tour. This tour starts in Stockton Illinois on Saturday June 10th and ends Sunday June 11th in Monroe Wisconsin early enough to get home in the afternoon. Most of the participants stay in Stockton overnight to avoid a long drive early in the morning to Stockton. The added benefit to coming to Stockton the day before is you get to have dinner with other club members. The block of rooms at theCountry Inn and Suites in Stockton expires on May 15th. Call them at 815-947-6060 to reserve your room. The block of rooms for Saturday night at the Best Western in Dodgeville Wisconsin expires earlier on May 10th. Call them at 608-935-7739 to book your room. Hope to see you there.

from our Vice-President

Well the driving season is officially here! Today was our annual Spring Tune up. I didn’t make it. I got wrapped up in a freezer that wasn’t working and that took precedence over my MG. At least where my wife is concerned.

I have big plans for this week. I took the week off from my job as an engineer with AT&T to do a lot of work on the nursing home. I haven’t told my wife but, I also plan on getting several things done on the MG as well. I have carbs to clean and rebuild. Valves to set, and a flaky ignition issue. I hope to have the car running in time to still RSVP for the Spring Brunch on April 26th. No pressure there! I might just have to bring my Swedish MG! (a.k.a a Volvo).

May will be a very busy month for the Club and a great start to the driving season. However, I really feel I need to ask (beg) you all for ideas on presentations for our club meetings. What can you share with your fellow enthusiasts? I’d like to hear more of your stories. Why did you get an MG? What was the best and worst drive you ever made in your MG? What kinds of help do you need to get your car on the road or keep it there? I’m open to all ideas. If you’ve interested, I’m sure lots of others are as well. Let me or any of the other club officers know your ideas for making our meetings more interesting and fun.

Safety Fast
