2017 Spring Chicken Run
May 7, 2017

I hope you have saved the date of Sunday, May 7 for this year’s Spring Chicken Run. We are almost a month earlier this year, so we hope the global warming continues. We will be starting at the same place at the Deer Park Town Center shopping mall on the northwest corner of Rand Road, Hwy 12 and Deer Park Blvd. in the same lot as last year, next to the Starbucks. It is easy to see once you are at the strip mall. There is also a Panara Bakery just across from the Starbucks. The center of the mall where we meet is on the west side of Hwy 12 for the ‘newbies’ that will be joining us.

We will start the Drivers Meeting at 10:00am. The drive will be approximately 1-1/2 hours and we will end up at the same local watering hole as 2015, where you can order lunch from the menu. Yes, they have chicken along with other items. The spot is Cruisin’, located in Gilberts. The address is 11 Galligan Rd, Gilberts, IL 60136, for those that just want to join us for lunch. Their web site is: http://www.cruisingilberts.com. There will also be a few challenging questions for the navigators to answer along the way.
Jana and I look forward to seeing you at this year’s drive. Please let me know if you will be attending so we can provide the information to Cruisin’. Home phone 847-566-5075 or email gphariss@comcast.net. Hope you can make it to this year’s SPRING CHICKEN RUN!!

Car Care Safety Clinic for Seniors
May 13, 2017

Want to help keep the growing population of older drivers safe on the road? The Naperville and Lisle Townships Triad help by offering Car Care Safety Clinics each year

One sure sign of Spring is the Naperville and Lisle Townships TRIAD Free Car Clinic for Seniors, Saturday May 13, 2017 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Lisle Township, 4711 Indiana Ave, Lisle, IL 60532.

The safety clinic provides a free 40-point safety inspection of vehicles driven by senior citizens (ages 50 and older). The event grows each year as the Triad organization’s outreach to seniors continues to expand.

Vintage and antique cars will again be on display; most are vehicles owned by our volunteers who help perform the inspections. Chicagoland MG Club (CMGC) member Jim Vondran coordinates the Triad car safety clinics and is seeking volunteers from the CMGC, the Chicago area Model T Club, and the Windy City Miata Club. (We feed our volunteers, by the way!)

A newcomer to the vintage vehicles on display will be a 1984 Mini-Corvette go kart. (It was built in 1983 under license from GM in advance of the introduction of the 1984 Corvette C4.) When a fellow car guy who just finished his barn-find 1974 Buick convertible heard about the Mini-Vette kart, he offered to bring his vintage Mini-Model T Ford to the Spring event. These gas powered cars were from the 1960s, and I really wanted one when I was a kid!

Please contact Jim directly at (630) 234-7102 to participate, either as an inspection team crew-member and/or displaying your vintage car. We need a few good “car people.”

Additional Background:
The Naperville and Lisle Townships TRIAD, an organization dedicated to the safety and well being of senior citizens, is a partnership of local governments, law enforcement and fire departments, senior citizens, community groups, and private entities serving the growing senior population. The Triad organization presents several safety, awareness, and social programs for seniors each year. Visit www.naperville-lisle-triad.org for more information.
