Garage Tour #1
May 25, 2013

The morning started out with a brief light rain then remained cloudy for the event. Zack, a next door neighbor, came with me as a navigator.

Our starting garage visit was at the Shirley & Roger Goebbert’s in Huntley. Arriving before us were Duane & Jane McCart of Oak Lawn. That’s a long ride from the Southside - glad to see them. I decided to put my top down it was cool but we braved it. It made it easier to take photos along the way. The roads were smooth and we did not experience any problems. Each garage we visited was different – some were open and spacious with car memorabilia and others were cramped for workspace.

The tour continued through Crystal Lake and Cary before ending at Dino & Lisa Perez’s home/garage in Lake in the Hills for a super great lunch and deserts - thanks to Lisa! There were 8 cars traversing the garage route. It was a fun day and a great way to get our MG’s out for a ride despite the cooler weather.

A big thanks to the Goebbert’s, Schnell’s, L’Heureux’s, Scherb’s for opening your homes and hearts to our MG family

Champagne British Car Festival
May 31—June 2, 2013

The Champagne British Car Festival had its beginnings as an all-British car show in the spring of 1992. In association with the Illinois Flat Land British Car Club and co-sponsored by the Central Illinois Triumph Owners Association and the Prairie Octogon MG Club, the festival found its current location at the David Davis Mansion in the near east side. The host hotel is the Bloomington Hawthorn Suites.

The organizers at the festival have always worked hard to give the CBCF an identity of its own, with organized activities beginning on Friday evening and continuing through Sunday afternoon with car display. Popular activities throughout the run in Champaign included funkanas, pub crawls, double-decker buses, high teas, picnics, the dawn patrol breakfast run, and more.

The Champagne British Car Festival has become an annual event for many British car enthusiasts in the Midwest for more than two decades.
