Post cards from Karel
An ‘Auto’biography of History
A postcard from Interlaken. In front of the Savoy Hotel is a MGA Coupe with Swiss license plate AG 45907.
Note from Reinout
Switzerland is only a small country but they have four languages; German, Swiss-German, Italian, and French. The country consists of over 20 Cantons, similar to our counties. Each has its own two-letter identification on vehicle license plates.
Interlaken is in Canton Bern, in the middle of the country. The cars on the left and right have BE plates, indicating that they are local. The MGA Coupe is from Aargau, in the North. The Beetle with the white oval D shield is from Germany. The car next to the VW is from Canton Basel-Stadt, in the North on the border with Germany. Of course, we all know the MG and the Beetle, but we don’t see the other three cars very often in the US. Do you know what brands they are?
