Lakes Tour and Insignificant Rally
July 27, 2014

It was a beautiful morning – warm and clear – when seventeen cars left the Panera Bread parking lot in Lake Bluff and headed out to participate in this year’s “Lakes Tour”. Rallymaster Ray Hansen (and sidekick Sue) led most of the group in a “tour” format while a few hardy folks opted to go it alone in a more traditional rally format.

In either case, all participants had a chance to drive along some scenic areas between Lake Bluff and the ending point in Fox Lake. Weather was great, and the roads were good. Ray’s directions were easy to follow; total mileage was about 50 and drive time was just over 2 hours.

Alone the way, participants were treated to viewing some of the smaller and less well known lakes that dot the area. A special treat was a drive through the University of St. Mary of the Lake Catholic seminary in Mundelein, which covers more geography than you might think. Most of the cars stopped for a view of the lake on this property at the main pier before continuing on.

End point was Dockers Restaurant on Lake Pistakee in Fox Lake. The group had a light meal and lively conversation on the outdoor deck while Ray and Sue scored question sheets and announced the winners: Winners received whimsical beach toy prizes (i.e. “lake” toys, get it?) in addition the official club trophies.

Our thanks to Ray and Sue for a well planned and executed club event!
