Vintage Transport Extravaganza Rally
August 7, 2011

Eight cars with drivers and navigators met Sunday morning, August 7th in Crystal Lake at Routes 176 and 14 for this year’s Transportation Rally. Rain showers had just moved through and the sun was warming up the day as rally master, Paul Urquhart, met the group. He had prepared driving instructions for a well-laid out route with questions incorporated into sequence. He planned a timed rally (under two hours) with bonus questions. Paul chose many two-lane roads throughout southern McHenry County, including through the small village of Bull Valley, into Woodstock and around the historic square (honorary home of Dick Tracy and filming location for “Groundhog Day”), and out further west through farmland, past the Railway Museum in Union, and on to Joe’s Place in Marengo.

Paul tallied the score sheets while the group enjoyed lunch, and the top rally winners were: First Place, Barney and Teresa Gaylord; Second Place, Roger and Shirley Goebbert; and Third Place, Vic and Penny L’Heureux.

Thanks to Paul for a fun rally on some great roads!

Orphan Auto Picnic
August 21, 2011

As in past years, the CMGC combined their annual picnic for all members with the Orphan Auto Picnic. This year British cars were be the featured cars and were corralled under the covered marque parking area. Over 40 British cars were displayed—Jaguars, Triumphs, and of course—MG’s.

Steaks, hot dogs, brats hamburgers—they all were being grilled to perfection on the provided grills. Plenty of side dishes were provided by the club members to share.

The day was perfect for a picnic—clear skies and warm sun made for a great day to view the cars and talk with fellow enthusiasts.
