Chicagoland MG Club: Driveline September 2014

    Monthly Meeting Minutes
August 19, 2014

David Novak

Vice-President, Victor L’Heureux, banged the gavel at 8:02PM to bring the rowdy bunch to order.

New Members
Jerry Jerasic
, with a Twin-Cam MG-A, attended his first meeting.
Max and Shannon, with a ‘69 MGB-GT
Dean & Cary Higgenlooper, driving a ’73 MG-B, from Darien.

Car Project:
Big news, Bill Mannell washed his car prior to the drive-in night. A first for everybody involved!
A friend of a member is looking for a cylinder head for his chrome-bumper B, to replace the cracked head. Jim Evans seems to have more than his share of heads, and is working out an arrangement.
Ralph Arata, who’s been gone a lot recently, has been having problems with low power. After several tries at retiming, he finally pulled the vacuum hose off the distributor, and claims that he’s 96% of the way back to full power. It sounds like a little more “fettling” is in Ralph’s future.
Christmas Party, cost will be $37.50 a person, and everything will be better this year. The location is in Lisle, called the Wheatstack, and it’s on a golf course. This year will be a cooperative effort with the Vintage club. The party is December 6th, look for more info in the Driveline.

BCU coming up: Darryl Mayo is looking for volunteers to direct traffic for an hour. Show is September 7th. Please contact Darryl if you’re interested.

Past Events
Lakes Tour/Rally: Great weather and good times, discovering the Mundelein seminary, with 18 cars in attendance.
Drive-In movie: At the Cascade theatre, with 16 club members! It was a great night, despite mixed reviews of the movies.
GOF, MG-A, and MG-B conventions. No report.
Peds in the Weeds: 7 members were there, and dozens of rides were given to children.
UML Summer party: Had 10 Post-Abingdon in attendance! 175 total MG’s in attendance. Weather was great for the whole weekend (with the exception of a little rain on Sunday).
UML Awards: Dino and Lisa Perez won 2nd place in the post-Abingdon category & Rich Meservey won 1st place for the Rubber Bumper LE category! Congrats!
Orphan picnic, about 150 cars were in attendance. There was a large showing of Triumph’s, and a handful of MG’s. The featured Marquee was non-British imports. Jim Evans noted that it seems like the turnout has dwindled in the last few years. It doesn’t help that the picnic is eld on the 3rd Sunday in August, at the Kendall County Fairgrounds, which frequently interferes with the UML Summer party.

Staff Reports:
Membership: ~3 new members in the last month.
Library: A few books were donated, and Bill still has a couple

of the heavy white wall plaques
Regalia: The CMGC Nametags are done in batches of 10, so if you need a badge, talk to Victor about getting your name on the list.
Webmaster: Still in Pennsylvania! Driving around and having a good time, fixing cars, and on his way to Delaware. Website is up and running, with no issues.
Driveline: Looking for more submissions. Victor is looking for pictures and articles, for publication, only a couple of paragraphs, is all he’s looking for.
Finance: Presentation from Ralph.

50/50: Due to roll-overs from previous meetings, the total pot is $59! Won by Reinout!

Presentation was given by our Minister of Finance, Ralph Arata. His pitch was to encourage members to step up and run for office in the MG Club. There are 4 officers, and a number of staff positions, and nominations start in October. Ask any officer or former officer for their impressions if you’re even the slightest bit interested. The work isn’t hard, and it was noted by your Secretary, that the perks include fame and prestige! How can you go wrong?

Upcoming Events
Reinout Vogt reminded us of the Tally-Ho rally. It’s a 3-hour rally, and there’s always good food at the conclusion!
August 28th, is the Westmont Street Fair. Bill Kalafut has organized the Club’s participation in the fair/car show. Please contact Bill if you plan on coming. A show of hands says about 10 people from the meeting will be there.
Reminder: BCU is coming up. Darryl Mayo is looking for volunteers to direct traffic, please contact him ASAP to sign up for your slot!
Wine Cheese & Beer Tour coming up, the 10th anniversary! Starts in Rockford and ends in Port Washington WI. Sept 19th through 21st.
Lucas Memorial Rally: Rich Meservey will be organizing this historic rally! Stating in St. Charles ~4pm until sunset. Look for detail in Driveline, email, and on the website.

Next year, June 8th-12th, 2015 the NAMGBR convention will be in Toronto. Sign up soon, and book your room!

Next month, Steve Skegg will be in to talk about car storage. October, Ralph Arata will be talking about lubricants.

Meeting was adjourned at 9:11pm.
Respectfully
David Novak
Secretary
