Chicagoland MG Club: Driveline September 2018
Past Event

PEDS in the Weeds
August 5, 2018

As in years past, members of the two MG clubs helped spread some joy - by giving rides in our cars - during this annual oncology picnic that featured food and entertainment sponsored by the Advocate Children's Hospital of Park Ridge.

Held in the Cook County St. Paul Woods, this is a day out for children who are experiencing or surviving cancer - and it gives them a chance to have some fun time with family and friends.

Part of that fun time was spent in the passenger seats of our MGs. We had six of them at the ready, and each made a lot of trips - a chrome-bumpered and a rubber-bumpered Midget (Jody Simons & Steve Sparks and Tim Schafer, respectively), a MkII TD (Bob Lee), a rubber-bumpered V8 B (Kerry & Dean Hickenlooper), a MGA 1600 MkII (Chuck McCallum), and a C Tourer - with bimini hood (Doug G. Clark). So, we spent a few hours on an August Sunday afternoon acting as chauffer's to a bunch of smiling, happy, waving traveling companions - and we enjoyed it as much as they did!

Those who support the pediatric cancer patients - whether parents, siblings, friends, caregivers, or medical staff - appreciate how important it is to do something to brighten the lives of all those affected by the struggles against this disease. The CMGC and VMGCC continue to be glad to help deal with those struggles by offering those most affected with some fun in our vintage cars.

Thanks to Kerry Hickenlooper for acting as the liaison with the hospital staff, and to the aforementioned Club members who drove their MGs on the day. This was not a good excuse to drive our cars - it was a good reason to drive them.

MY FIRST BRITISH CAR

Most notably my 1959 RHD MGA, my MG RV8 and my painted bumper red MGB which I had for 17 years. All of those are gone now but my new inventory has another 1959 RHD MGA with a supercharger and Siera 5 speed and I have a 1952 MG TD and working on restoring another MGB.
