Monthly Meeting Minutes
Third Monday, September 19, 2011
Attendance: 35 members
President Bill Reece opened the meeting at 8:00. Bill recognized new member, Larry Colangelo. Larry seasonally travels be-tween Las Vegas and Elmhurst and has 1976 and 1978 MGB‘s.
Orphan Auto Picnic – 8/21 –This event was held at the Ken-dall County fairgrounds will have British cars as the marque this year. The weather was excellent and we had a good turn-out of British cars. A few of our members were raffle winners.
Healy Rally & Gymkhana – 8/6 – This 70-mile gimmick was attended by seven drivers. Rallymaster, Barney Gaylord, noted club member Bill Cantrall took 1st place in the rally. Trophies were awarded at the BCU British Car Festival.
British Car Fest – 9/11 – Dave Bralich noted that 560 cars and over 1,000 visitors attended this year‘s event. Many of our club members were awarded trophies in the MG class. A complete list can be seen on the www.BritishCarUnion.com website.
Wine, Cheese & Beer Tour – 9/16-18 – John Schroeder remarked that this year the tour took take place in eastern Io-wa. There were 49 participants driving in 24 cars taking part this year along the scenic route. Weather was overcast on Sat-urday and a slight drizzle turning into a rain storm on Sunday making for a challenging event. Only three breakdowns on this trip!

Southwest Suburban Garage Tour – 9/25 - Dino Perez noted that a date has been selected for this event. Member garages located in Naperville, Glen Ellyn and Downers Grove have been identified for this event.
Fall Color Tour – 10/1-2 or 10/8-9 – Dan Herman noted that with the lack of water this year for the trees, the tour is "iffy". Dan will post an email announcing the actual dates to club members.
Halloween Tour – 10/30 – A letter from Reinout Vogt was read stating that the tour is a "go" for this year. More details will be in the Driveline.
Fall Tune-down & Chili Party – 11/6 – Dave Bralich noted the event will take place at his house and garage with a caul-dron of chili for all attending. Dave is attempting to have a tool vendor (possibly Matco or Snap-On) at the event.
Cruise to the Rock – 11/24 – Jake & Ann Snyder noted that this event will start at 9 am at the rock. A drive to a local res-taurant will take place after the event. More details next month.
Holiday Party – 12/3 – Ralph Arata stated that the venue has been changed this year to a new location. We will be at the Bella Vista Banquets & Catering in Bensenville this year. The membership of Vintage MG Car Club of Chicago will also attend the event.
Tech Session – A possible Technical Session will take place on October 15/16. A new member will be doing some body work and welding and has invited club members to his garage. Dino will send an email out to the members with details.
President Bill Reece noted that due to other personal commit-ments he will not be on the ballot for next year club elections.
Diane Gonzales presented a gift to Ralph Arata in recogni-tion of the events that occurred on the Wine, Cheese & Beer Tour this year. Prior to the Saturday evening dinner, Ralph repaired a "pants malfunction" with a stapler borrowed from the hotel front desk. Diane presented Ralph a gift of a traveling sewing kit and buttons.
50/50 Raffle – Dave Ransom went home $13 richer.
