Autocross

Autocross

Be careful what you ask for. You might just get it, and I did. Last month I asked you all to come out and show me how you autocross. Dave Nova and Troy Navarrete did just that. This was Troy’s first time out and I believe he had a bunch of fun. Even though he brought out his 2000 Miata instead of his MG. I had gotten a Vivitar action cam (go-pro knock off) for my 20 years with AT&T. The first one decided it didn’t like holding the memory card in. So I sent it back for a warrantee replacement. I got the replacement the day before the Autocross and haven’t really figured out how to use it. I tried to use it in each of our cars with the idea I could put together a little video. I got about 30 seconds of David’s bonnet after he had done his run. I rode with Troy on one run and some footage from that and I did get my fastest lap. So all’s not lost yet.

This day’s course was very challenging. Almost everyone got lost on the course at least once There were 667 runs during the day. 67 were “DID NOT FINISH” (DNF). I had a real thing going with a cone on the corner of the finish line. I kept running it over. But I think the cloverleaf was the most confusing section until you got the hang of it .

Troy took off before we could get a picture of the three of our cars. So I imposed on Erik Dieterich to stand in with his 1979 MGB. Last year Erik had an electrical fire at the autocross we were at and we helped him get it put out. He spent the winter replacing the wiring harness, Wire by Wire. Good job Erik.

So how did we fair? Erik was the fastest MG, but he’s not yet a club member so that honor falls to Dave with a time of 77.749 seconds. Troy had a best time of 76.084 in his Miata. I finished in my usual place. Last, with my best time of 83.548 seconds.
