Amtrak Road Trip
January 24-26, 2020

Winters can seem longer when the MGB is sitting under a cover for many months with its battery removed and connected to a trickle charger. But there are other ways to travel to interesting places and one of them is by Amtrak, the passenger railroad service between many cities.  The destination needs a reasonable hotel, restaurants and a transportation-themed attraction.   This year we are headed to La Crosse, Wisconsin to tour the Dahl Auto Museum leaving Chicago on January 24, 2020 and returning January 26, 2020.

Get tickets at Amtrak.com: Cost is about $100 per person roundtrip. Costs increase closer to the departure date. We will leave from Union Station in Chicago at Jackson and Canal. The Amtrak station in La Crosse is about two miles north of the hotel and we will need to find a cab or snowmobile to get to the hotel.

The cost per night is $127 king/137 2 queen beds, breakfast included. There is a pool but no bar. Earl’s Grocery and Saloon is across the street (gentlemen are reminded to keep their ladies close). There are many restaurants in the area, including Piggie’s, the one place everyone from La Crosse will ask you about.
