MGB TO BE RAFFLED! raffle car

Letter from CMGC member Fred Dornback

December 16, 1998

During the summer our family, Mary, Mike and myself, decided to rebuild another MGB. Our goals were to help one of our favorite not for profit organizations and to introduce someone new to our world of MG's. Our family decided to offer the 1980 snapdragon yellow MGB roadster to the Illinois State University (ISU) Redbird Educational Scholarship Fund (RESF) for their Spring Drive Away raffle. With many hours of labor by the family and friends, the project is nearing completion on time. The body work came out great as well as the interior. The mechanics on the car are also great. This MGB has more zip than any of our cars, present and past. This car is ready to drive and show. I have about 150 miles of road testing complete to fine tune things (thank you God for the weather).

The car will be on display at Redbird Arena in Normal, Illinois, from about January 9, 1999 until the raffle date in April in conjunction with the spring football scrimmage. It is our hope that the donation of the MGB will allow the RESF to sell over $50,000 worth of tickets with all proceeds going to student athlete scholarships.

I need your help now to make this effort known to the MG world. As you are aware, the cars are the vehicle (pun intended) to allow all of us in the MG family to meet, learn and enjoy ourselves. It is for this reason I am asking the Chicagoland MG Club to consider the donation of a one-year membership and/or an event registration to the winner of the raffle.

I have enclosed two booklets of tickets that I encourage you to offer to your membership. The cost is $25.00 for a booklet of six tickets to one family or individual or $5.00 a piece for individual tickets. If you wish additional tickets anyone can contact me at my home office, 630/557-2244 or email me at fdornback@elnet.com.

To the many people that have offered us time, materials and help to make this effort possible, to all of you a big thank you!

Safety Fast,

Fred

Editor's note: The Chicagoland MG Club is happy to provide a free year's membership to the lucky winner and wishes Fred and the Spring Drive Away Raffle the best of success. Raffle tickets will be available at the January 18th CMGC meeting.
