Fuel Lines in the Midget's boot
by David Lieb

In the emissions-controlled Midgets, there is a vapor return line coming from the charcoal cannister in the engine compartment to the separation cannister in the boot and another line from there to the fuel tank, connecting right beside the filler tube. The flex lines used for this have a braided wire cover over them. It is not at all uncommon to find that the braid looks fine, despite the hose being completely perished. One of the common symptoms of this is that the gas station pump does not kick off automatically when you fill the tank. Unfortunately, nobody seems to stock these hoses. You can, however, use a Dremel tool with a good cutoff wheel to dissect the fittings so that they can be attached to new fuel lines from the auto parts store.
