The Chicagoland MG Club consists of over 280 members; the majority residing in the Chicagoland area. The club is staffed with four elected officials and currently eight support staff positions. Staff members meet once a month. Being a club staff member is an honored position and is truly rewarding.

As we prepare for our 38th Anniversary in the year 2014, we will need strong leadership moving forward. Congratulations to all the candidates and we look forward to a Prosperous New Year.

A thank you goes out to Dave ‘Cowboy’ Bralich for again serving as our election official.

books The Library Muse

I hope that everybody enjoyed the holiday season, but I know that it can get to be a hectic time of year. But now it’s time to relax. And what better way to ‘chill’ than to curl up with a good book on a snowy winter day? The library has a large assortment of materials, including how-to books, bios, auto histories, novels, videos, and even a comedy album. Not all MG related, but all fit for a true car guy or gal. Check out the web-site for our inventory listing. If you see something that interests you, let me know and I’ll get it to the meeting. Wishing all a safe and happy new year.

This month’s featured book, titled Mr. MG, was donated by Roger and Shirley Goebbert.

Mr. MG
Biography of John Yates Thornley
Peter J.H. Thornley, 2003, 246 pages, photos, softbound

Every MG person knows (or should know) the name John Thornley. This is his biography written by his son. But it is also an insight into the inner workings of The MG Car Company. The first chapter is a copy of his speech given to the Abingdon Rotary Club on April 18, 1980, before the final decision was made to close. It helps to explain why, even to this day, MGers consider Triumphs the enemy.
