Lake Shore Tour Returns
… In Reverse

Sunday, July 28th

Sunday morning and we are heading toward the city on I-90. The temperature is about 50 and the sky is ominous. Could we be heading to an October/November Bears game?

As we approached Soldier Field I remembered we were not going to a football game. This was July and we were going to participate in the CMGC Lake Shore Tour. We pulled into the parking lot of Meig’s Field (Northerly Island) about a half hour before the scheduled meet time of 9:00 a.m. to find we were the second MG there. Shortly, fellow club members (and some non-members) were pulling in; Ray and Sue brought the much welcomed coffee and donuts.

By 9:30 a.m. most of us had our share of refreshments and it was time for the tour meeting. Ray and Sue went over the Tulip-format directions and pointed out some special items to be aware of. The directions were straightforward enough, especially since we would be following Lake Shore Drive and Sheridan Road throughout the trip.

With that we took off. By direction #2 (we were still on the Island) we hit a glitch. Chicago's finest had blocked the road we were on and had us turn around. This was just before the police memorial wall for fallen officers and I later learned there was an event planned there. Seeing a long caravan make a U-turn was comical. This turned out to be a very minor glitch, we headed back to McFedrich Dr. and entered Lake Shore Drive from there rather than 18th St.. That also turned out to be the only glitch in the well laid out directions.
