Steve had his fastest lap for the day with a 68.912 seconds

The July 14th autocross started out wet, and then got wetter. Despite the rain we had six club members show up to race. This was our best outing in a long while. We even had two new racers, Steve Sparks (Sparky) and Phil Wydra came out to race with us. My son Ross was also able to come out and join us for the morning session.

The rain in the morning kept times in the mid sixty second range. Our MG’s faired well during the morning session. But the afternoon saw the sun finally peak out and the track dried out. Which allowed for some very quick times. The fastest time of the day was 45.226 seconds. Our best times were Dean Hickenlooper 54.699 for the fastest MG, Tim Schafer edged me out with a 59.437 seconds. I placed third in the MGs with a 60.079. I had a 58.181 second run but I clipped a cone for a 2 second penalty. Phil’s best run was 63.336 seconds, Ross had a 65.44 second run in the wet and Steve had his fastest lap at the end of the day with a 68.912 seconds.

All in all a very good showing. Despite having the oldest cars racing, all of the MGs left under their own power. While two of the Miata’s had to be towed home.

Our next outing is August 4th. Registration is open two weeks before. So please come out and join us. If you don’t want to drive you can still join us and cheer for those who are running. Also I would really like someone to take pictures of the MGs while they are on the course. It makes the articles more interesting for the Driveline and those of us that are participating can only take pictures during our “Rest” period. So we miss those that are driving while we are working the course.
