PEDS in the Weeds
August 4, 2019

Once again it’s that time of year for Peds in the Weeds!!

It’s a wonderful event for children with cancer where we give rides in our MGs! I’m looking for a few volunteers to help out this year, anyone interested PLEASE contact me Kerry at kerrydarien@yahoo.com or at our next meeting.

This event will take place Sunday, August 4th. You can also reach me at 630-991-0166.
It’s a wonderful event and also so rewarding to see the kids having fun riding in our cars!!!
Thanks again for all of those who have helped in the past!

Autocross

We ran Autocross on July 27th with the Windy City Miata club at Boomers stadium in Schaumberg. The weather and the competition was hot. We had 4 members driving. Troy Navarrete, Ross Compton (my son), Dean Hickenlooper and I all vied for top honors. Troy brought out his 1972 MGB, Dean ran his TR6, He’s still reassembling his MGB and his MG V8 gets too hot, and Ross and I shared our 1978 MGB. Cliff Hime came out to see what this autocross is all about in his MGB but only rode with Dean. But he indicated he’d be racing with us next time.

Cliff's MGB. Troy edged out Dean with a 56 second lap.

Troy crossing the finish line.

Ross and I traded laps with the old man coming out on top by 1 second. Ross hasn’t had much experience driving the MG because he was in school. Now that he’s graduated we may see more of him. I hope.

Our final Autocross for 2019 will be August 24th. Registration opens August 10th. Register early or risk not being able to race. Please make sure you’ve can register on “Motorsport.Reg”. If you need help call my mobile (847-922-9800) and I’ll try to help you get registered. The cost is $40 for Non-WCMC, Non-Miata (Visiting Club) I usually choose Visiting club 1 when registering. If there is another club then we may get bumped to Visiting club 2 but all of that is behind the scenes and not something you need to concern yourself with.

I expect it to be very hot that day. It is late August. So bring lots of water, sunscreen and a hat. While the racing is fun, the working the course in the afternoon can be draining due to the heat. If you need help getting your car ready or have questions please reach out to me. My email address is wb9rro@foxvalley.net. Til next month Safety Fast. Jim
