Chicagoland MG Club: Driveline September 2018

Autocross

By the time you read this our Autocross season will be over. It has been a very wet season this year and as I write this the weatherman is calling for rain on the date of our final autocross. It seems fitting the season ends the way it started WET!

On August 4th Dean Hickenlooper, David Novak and I participated in the autocross. Dean’s fastest time was 47.545 seconds. Dave came in second, with a 49.356 and I placed last of both the MGs and all of the cars out there at 51.559 seconds. Still, I consider that a pretty fair run. I was only 4 seconds slower than Dean and only 0.3 seconds slower than a 2015 Mustang!

Fastest lap was a 1997 BMW M3 at 40.787 seconds. All of our MGs were less than 10 seconds slower than the fastest time on the track. Plus you only really race against yourself.

For next year I really think we need to try to host our own half day autocross. If you’ve got access to a large parking lot please let me know and we can try to see if we can get something set up. A number of members have indicated the all day autocross with the Miata club is just too wearing on both the car and the driver. I don’t deny I also get wore out after all day on a hot parking lot. Next month I’ll try to recap the season. I never did get a photographer so you’re stuck with what photos I can get.

We have a new On-Line Chicagoland MG Store that replaces Fieldhouse. It is set up and ready for you to purchase and customize with our Club Logo.

The Link to the store is: https://business.landsend.com/store/mg/

It operates much like Fieldhouse did. It is a division of Land’s-End which you are probably familiar with. Their merchandise quality is known, because they have retail stores that seem to carry the same items that are offered on line at our new store. One big difference is that there is a separate charge to put the logo on the item. The price was included in the Fieldhouse price, but with Land’s-End the Embroidery is priced separately. Changing the colors of the Logo does not add to the price. Lands-End also will take back merchandise like Fieldhouse did, even if embroidered.

They carry many more items than Fieldhouse, and their prices may be a bit higher, but the customization opportunities are more varied. You can modify the colors of our Logo as much as you want, based on how it would match with the color of clothing that you purchase. Our Club web site will provide a link to the new store soon, but it is open now.

Any member that wants to purchase something can do so and then place our logo on the Item and customize it to see how it will looks. Also, if any one needs help, “Do not hesitate to call George at 847-566-5075, and he will try to help them through the process.”

Note from George
We are in the process of setting up another on-line store with Dave Ransom and this will provide our members with a choice of where and what to shop for. His items will offer merchandise that will be more tailored toward our club needs. We will keep you posted as this develops.
