To quote Neil Diamond, it was a “Hot August Night”. We all “packed up the babies and grabbed the old ladies” and headed for Westmont. By babies I mean our beloved MGs

Bill Kalafut’s 4th annual Westmont Cruise Night was once again a big hit. There were 20 members and two perspective members showing up in various vintage MGs. Bill counted ten MGBs, two MGB GTs, two MGAs, two TDs, two Midgets, one MGB with a V8, and rounding out the list was Dino’s famous RV8.

In keeping with tradition, Bill had us walking in circles up and down Cass Ave with his “count your paces” rally. There were a lot of laughs as we realized that not all paces are created equal. Taking first place in the rally was Ray and Sue Hansen. (How embarrassing would it be if a surveyor couldn’t win a walking rally?) Coming in second was Phil and Sandy Wydra, followed by Jim Compton and Bob Dorley taking third place.

There were some discerning judges this year giving the people’s choice awards. Dean Hickenlooper took first place with his V8 MGB, Gerry Geraci’s beautiful MGA took second place and Bob Lee’s MG TD received the third place award.

Headlight issue was a non-problem with Dino around

The highlight of the event was the great food from Uncle Bub’s BBQ that Bill and Jean provided. The only hiccup of the event was Ray Hansen having one head light out as he was preparing to head home. Well, Dino to the rescue. With a fistful of wires in one hand and his trusted tester in the other, Dino resolved the issue of a bad ground within minutes.

So once again, a big thank you goes to Bill Kalafut and Jean Heasley for another great cruise night event. What a fantastic way to showcase your beloved Westmont.
