Meet & Greet Time

Sometimes when the cars need a rest, or we just need a respite from driving them, we like to do dinner with friends, a yard party, an outting in the park, an Amtrak road trip, camping for a weekend, or other pleasantries with our friends. If you don't find something you like here, we're always open to suggestions for more fun.

Meetings - Events - Newsletter

The club meets on the third Monday of each month at Mack's Golden Pheasant in Elmhurst, IL (just west of Route 83 on North Avenue (Rt-64) at 8:00 P.M.   Come early for dinner or chat.   Natter & Noggin is held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 P.M., currently meeting at McNally's Traditional Irish Pub, 122 South York Street, Elmhurst IL.

Also be sure to check out the club calendar for upcoming events.
In addition the club publishes a monthly newsletter, the Driveline.
We welcome all MG enthusiasts to join us on any of our gatherings.

Halloween Tune-Down & Chilly Party
October 28, 2007
82 King Drive, Streamwood, IL
- (Click for map)

Since we don't have a Halloween Rally going this year, and we also don't have a good place to hold the Fall Tune Down Party, we thought it would be a good time to PARTY! Dave "Cowboy" Bralich hasn't held a good tech session for a while, so he has generously invited the entire club to his place for a Chilly Party. And while you're there you can use his garage, check out his new low height floor lift, maybe do an oil change or some minor tune-up work on your MG. If you plan on draining oil, bring a milk jug to take away the left-overs. Yes, we do sometimes park the MGs three deep in his cul-de-sac.

CMGC Holiday Party 2007
December 1, 2007 - at Elmcrest Banquets
7370 W Grand Ave. - Elmwood Park, IL

elmcrest banquet hall

It is that time of year again! Or it will be before you know it! The club's Holiday Party Guru, Dave Ransom has lined up that well liked venue again for our yearly Holiday Party. The party will be held on Saturday December 1, 2007 from 6:30-12:30 at:
Elmcrest Banquets by Biancalana's, 7370 W Grand Avenue, Elmwood Park IL 60707   708-453-3989 Click for map
The cost of the party is $26/person, and the club will pick up the balance same as last year. There will be a Cash Bar at 6:30, and dinner will be served at 7:30. There will be an optional gift exchange, so bring one of about $10 value and you get one in exchange. The food selections will be similar to last year however we ask that you please request vegetarian meals in advance with your payment.
Special Announcement: The club has learned that the Abingdon Players will make an appearance at this year's Christmas Party. After a long absence from club affairs (which may involve either a consent degree or some unusual aspect of the Federal Witness Program) this group has again scheduled an appearance. In years past, the Abingdon Players have: Rally'd with the Bobbits, toured in an MG with Prince Charles and Lady Diane, explored Classic Car Guy Syndrome on the Phil-Oprah-Jenny Show, played Wire Wheel of Fortune, have escorted three decrepit MG's (along with Dorothy) into the presence of the Wizard of B's and have explored the future with fortune teller "CarWreck the Magnificent". This year The Abingdon Players will be seeking volunteers at the November meeting for skit participants (no skill, talent or experience necessary) and also for members of their accompanying ladies choral group, "The Singing Magnettes" (also, no skill, talent or experience necessary). The Abingdon Players are coming to take a look at the lighter side of at MG ownership and hope you will enjoy their perspective. Their appearance is predicted to be a "spiritually inspiring" presentation.

12th Annual Amtrak Road Trip
January 25-27, 2008 Trip to the Detroit Auto Show

Did you ever want to leave the job a few hours early on Friday and not think about anything else besides cars until Monday morning? The AMTRAK Road Trip 2008 could be what you have been looking for. The AMTRAK Road Trips are intended to be a brief respite from the everyday world, starting with a few hours off from work on Friday until the next Monday morning. Weather is never a problem because transportation is left to the engineer’s very competent management. This is your chance to travel and party with virtually no consequences and without responsibility: you can return to your teenage years and party on the train, in the hotel and back again. All while being informed of the greatest and latest at the North American International Auto Show, aka Detroit Auto Show.

The hotel is the very favorite of those who have traveled this route before: the Best Western/Greenfield Inn in Dearborn, Michigan is the best there is. It is a full service hotel (hot cookies when you check in) with a pool, bar and restaurant. The trip is worth the automobile-related artwork on the walls of all the corridors of all three floors. Not to mention that the second floor apartment was used by Charles Lindbergh when he worked with the Ford Motor Company during WWII. The group rate for this fantastic hotel is $82 plus taxes. Expect the taxi ride to Cobo Hall to cost $10 each way. Taxi rides frequently come with memorable excursions at no extra charge. Bring a cell phone to keep in touch.

And there is still a train left that gets to the Detroit area in spite of all the travel cuts:
25 Jan 2008 Wolverine LV CHI 6:00 P.M Ar DER 11:59 P.M
27 Jan 2008 Wolverine LV DER 121:13 P.M Ar CHI 4:41 P.M.
The base price is $54.00 per person round trip.

Generally, on 25 January we will meet behind the bar in Union Station for a drink and a snack before boarding the train for more drinks and snacks. The hotel usually has someone to run the shuttle van from the station to the hotel. The train may be on time, but a two hour delay is not uncommon-bring a blanket or coat to stay comfortable on the train.

Make your hotel reservation at 313-271-1600.
Make your train reservatations at Amtrak.com or 800-872-7245.
