at Quality Tire & Auto, Willowbrook, IL
This was our annual Spring Tune-Up Party for oil changes, lube jobs, light work and tuning, etc. We like to thank Mark Lueck for the use of his facilities. This is Mark’s 26th year of hosting us at his third location!!!

Late MGB Rear Axle Clunk Removal
June 18, 2011 -- Naperville, Illinois
Replacing differential thrust washers in late model MGB (Salsbury rear axle), any MGB-BGT, or 1968-1980 MGB roadster, to eliminate backlash and clunk. We had six cars and one spare rear axle to process in one day with about a dozen club members getting hands dirty.
For cars signed up before June 13th we did a batch order for a discount and reduced delivery cost on parts. The parts, gaskets and oil cost $30 per car.

MGB Engine Assembly with Cam Timing
October 22 and 23, 2011 -- 12:00 Noon start time
304 May Avenue, Glen Ellyn, Illinois -
Click for map
(And you get to see Jim's new garage, not this old place).
All club members are invited to attend a Tech Session at Jim Evans' home in Glen Ellyn, scheduled for this Saturday and Sunday, starts at 12PM both days.
Jim says: "It's time to assemble the engine for my long suffering 1977 MGB. This car came off the road in about 1998 for restoration. Dormant for years; body work and painting put off until just a few years ago, but now completed and ready for a power train.
"We will start with a short block (crank & pistons already installed). First task will be camshaft and timing assembly. May need to "degree" the cam. Next oil pump & associated mechanisms. Head & rocker assembly. Engine front and rear plates. Oil pressure relief & other minor items. Flywheel & clutch assembly. Hope to have a ready-to-install engine assembly by 6 PM." (NOTE: ND vs USC at 6:30 on Sat, no more mechanics after 6pm, BYOB if you want to watch my TV).
Those attending will see in action such fabled items as torque wrench, clutch alignment tool, feeler gauge, dial indicator, brass hammer, steel and wooden blocks, and possibly a BFH from time-to-time. Also on the menu, such "good ol' boy", shade tree, and backyard mechanic "voodoo" chemicals such as Ultra-Blue, Copper Coat, Loc-Tite Red & Blue, Muriatic acid, Vaseline ("is he serious?" Yes, I am), STP and Moly Lube. Maybe a quick lesson on "gasket matching" for intake/exhaust. There will be an opportunity to compare a high performance camshaft side-by-side with a stock MGB camshaft to see the difference.
If you have never seen an engine assembled before, or wondered what was under the valve cover and inside the block, this will be an entertaining and educational experience for you. Sunday session depends on weather - no session if raining. Schedule changes not likely, but possible - so call before you come. Attendees are invited to use Jim's parts washer and blasting cabinet (set up with glass beads for small parts). MIG and gas welder also on hand.

Fall Tunedown and Chili Party
November 6, 2011 -- 9:00am - 3:00pm
82 King Drive, Streamwood, Illinois
Click for map
This has been a big hit the last several years, so don't miss it. Cowboy has a low lift drive-over hoist so we can do some underbody inspection, maybe a few oil changes, some tune-up work or minor repairs. Bring your own parts, oil and a jug for oil disposal (and yes, you will take your own away). Chili and drinks will be provided.
